Over 200 designs were submitted, and Ryan Sealey, a student, emerged victorious. The public vote led to the official adoption of the Devon Flag in 2003.

• 16th Century: Green banners used by the Devon Militia.

• 18th Century: Black and white colours used by the Devon Yeomanry.

• Early 20th Century: Devon County Council used a similar flag design.
