How to Attach a Flag to a Telescopic Flag Pole Using Ball Bungees: Our Proven Method
If you’ve ever wondered how to attach a flag to a flag pole, you’re not alone. At impact-flags.co.uk, we often get this question—and we’re here to share our proven method using ball bungees, our preferred and reliable way to secure flags to any telescopic pole.
Whether you’re preparing for an event, attending a rally, or simply flying your flag, this easy, step-by-step guide will show you how to do it right the first time.
What You’ll Need
-
A telescopic flag pole (any size works)
-
A flag with grommets (all our flags come pre-installed with these metal eyelets)
-
Ball bungees (2 for standard flags, 3 for larger or banner-style flags)
What is a ball bungee?
A ball bungee is a durable elastic loop with a plastic ball at one end. It’s designed to wrap around the pole and fasten itself, creating a strong hold without damaging the flag or the pole.
Step-by-Step Guide to Attaching Your Flag
1. Extend the Telescopic Pole
Start by extending your pole to the desired height. Make sure each section is fully locked in place. We recommend giving each twist section a small quarter-turn to secure it properly.
2. Choose the Attachment Point
Select the position on the pole where you want to attach your flag. While it’s possible to attach it at the very top, we usually avoid this because the top section can be more flexible. Placing the flag slightly lower offers better stability.
3. Attach Ball Bungees to the Flag
Thread the elastic loop of the ball bungee through the grommet on the flag. Then pull it back over the ball to form a secure loop. Repeat this step for each grommet. If you’re using a banner-style flag, you may need a third bungee.
Many of our customers (and our team) prefer to leave the bungees attached to the flag for quicker use next time (and you don’t get told off for forgetting them!).
4. Wrap and Secure the Flag to the Pole
Take the flag with attached bungees and wrap each bungee around the pole. Stretch the elastic and fasten it over the plastic ball. The ball should sit on the outside, keeping the flag tight to the pole.
5. Adjust the Tension
To create a tighter fit, loop the bungee around the pole more than once before securing. This extra tension helps keep the flag from sliding or coming loose in the wind.
6. Final Checks Before Raising the Flag
Gently pull on the flag to ensure it’s firmly secured. Adjust the positioning if necessary. One final and important tip—make sure your flag is the right way up before raising it. We’ve all made that mistake at least once!
Done! Your Flag is Secure and Ready to Fly
With this simple method using ball bungees, you can confidently attach your flag to any telescopic flag pole in minutes. It’s quick, secure, and wind-resistant.
