Over 200 designs were submitted, and Ryan Sealey, a student, emerged victorious. The public vote led to the official adoption of the Devon Flag in 2003.

Since then, it has become a source of county pride for Devonians everywhere.

A Flag Rooted in History

Though the flag itself is modern, its colours have a deep historical connection to Devon:

16th Century: Green banners used by the Devon Militia.
18th Century: Black and white colours used by the Devon Yeomanry.
1816: Admiral Lord Exmouth flew a dark green flag during the Bombardment of Algiers.
Early 20th Century: Devon County Council used a similar flag design.
